Photovoltaics is the direct conversion of light into electricity. Some materials absorb photons of light and release electrons. When these electrons are captured, a direct electrical current (DC) is produced.

Solar Photovoltaic panels contain silicon solar cell technology that does just this (see diagram). The SPV system gathers the current converting it from a direct current to a alternating current (AC), so it can then be used as electricity in your property or exported to the grid.

The current standard way for households to purchase their electricity is through an energy company - but by installing a Solar PV system you are able to generate your own electricity, selling any surplus your system generates back into the national grid (through the feed in tariff) and you can still buy electricity from an energy provider when you require more power than you system is producing.

"Solar PV panels collect light rather than heat so you can still generate electricity on cold and cloudy days!"

So there is no better time to invest in both your own and the environments future.
